19-Year-Old May Have Shot Victim Over a Girlfriend: Police
Kenneth Newsome allegedly shot another man before barricading himself inside an Aurora home on Friday, according to authorities.

An Aurora man charged with attempted murder in a Feb. 6 shooting may have been motivated by jealousy, according to police reports.
Kenneth Newsome, 19, is accused of shooting another man in Montgomery and then hiding out at his Aurora home during a more than three-hour standoff with police.
Newsome allegedly fled with 20-year-old Edwardo Correa Hernandez to a home Hernandez was renting in the 1100 block of Homer Avenue. The two men then barricaded themselves inside the home, according to police.

Negotiators from the Aurora Police Department’s Special Response Team were called in after the men allegedly refused to exit the home. Both men, along with a woman who has not been charged in connection with the incident, eventually emerged from the home and were taken into custody without incident.
The victim, who has not been identified by police, is reportedly believed to be the boyfriend of a woman Newsome used to date, according to Aurora police reports, the Beacon-News reported.

While there was no hostage situation involved in the Friday afternoon standoff, a nearby elementary school was placed on lockdown, and homes near the Homer Avenue house were evacuated following the incident, the Beacon reported.
Newsome is accused of shooting the victim just before 2:30 p.m. Friday near Melrose and Elliot avenues in Montgomery before fleeing to the Homer Avenue home.
Newsome is charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts aggravated discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a weapon without a valid FOID, unlawful possession of ammunition without a FOID and mob action, police said.
Hernandez, who reportedly had a knife, is charged with mob action and unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
During the incident, Montgomery Police were assisted by Aurora Police, Aurora Fire, Oswego, Kane and Kendall County and the Illinois State Police.
