Anderson Produce a Small Business in Need of Support
Grocery stores in the area have cut greatly into the profits.

If you are sick of prices and poor quality produce from your local grocery store Anderson Produce at 251 Montgomery Road in Montgomery may have an answer for you. With over 35 years in business and local produce ranging from incredible sweet corn to succulent tomatoes, this local stop has plenty to choose from. Owner Dave Maher has kept the stand open all these years along with being Oswego’s Township Assessor. His drive has kept the little stand open through growing adversity. Grocery stores in the area have cut greatly into the profits. Along with many of his regular customers aging and no longer able to make the trip. This gem is often overlooked and really shouldn’t be.
Anderson Produce used to have fields filled with great produce, but due to housing development and physical demands of planting, the fields are no more. Now Anderson’s brings in its local produce from Klein’s Produce in Elgin. They take a 45 minute car trip both ways every morning to get fresh produce before opening at 9 a.m. Sweet Corn is picked fresh daily and Anderson Produce has made sure they get the freshest. Your local grocery store cannot say that. They have plenty of variety ranging from Southern Illinois and Michigan Peaches to fresh plums and Concord Grapes. They have an abundant supply of local honey and jams. Almost all the fresh veggies are grown local like sweet corn, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers. This selection is comparable to any grocery store, but is considerably fresher. This stand is worth a stop. Also, don’t miss the stand in the fall for your pumpkin selection. Some of the freshest pumpkins are available and are not only great for Jack-O-Lanterns, but for pumpkin pies as well.

This is a great time to visit and the stand will provide a fun stop for any fall festivities. The staff is well trained and enthusiastic. Customer service is a staple in Anderson’s franchise. They are well informed of the variety of produce available and will give advice on preparations and even help customers to their car. Any leftover produce is stored to be kept fresh and is sorted and cleaned every morning. Very rarely will anyone see the stand’s produce out of shape or unorganized. This farm stand is passionate about produce and it shows. Anderson Produce used to have 2 to 3 employees there every day but with less demand for a local market employees have taken less hours to accommodate. However, customer service is still upheld and a priority.
In the past few years the lower customer traffic and inflating prices Anderson Produce faces higher stakes. What this little farm stand needs is a younger, enthusiastic consumer. With all the diet fads and weight loss programs out there people are looking for fresh produce. This local option is a good place to start.
