You know me always talking about education and the future of the tech and corporate worlds. I recently had the opportunity to view little geeks in action you know kids having fun. When fun is connected to learning they get way more out of it. Let’s take District 308 Robotics club or would a better name be Geeks building tomorrow today club. With the help of Caterpillar Tractor in Aurora they built one cool robot (machines that can perform various task either complex or human in nature) and competed in the FIRST robotics games. These next generation deep thinkers are just those kids I speak of that need to be challenged and inspired. Our school systems need to allow them to take these leaps forward and think outside the box. We need to embrace sciences and math with the same degree of importance we do playing sports. It was hard to hear that this and other groups are not placed on that same playing field that our athletes are and given space, tools and educational staff to drive forward in these unique fields of the future.
Yes I’m a geek but I also too was an athlete in school but I knew I would never become a professional athlete and so should the school systems. Come on you school district heads allow the teachers to think outside the box. Give them the space, tools and yes a little of those funds that should be directed at education not at sports because little geeks turn into big geeks and write blogs about the short comings of our educational system. Can you hear me people get with the program because the future is just a nano second away and the geeks are those helping drive the future. Just think how cool it would be if it were your son or daughter making the next billion dollar thingy, way more retirement from that then a pro football player!

CAW is my chance to help you out weekly with cool little programs that help or cause one to think. This week I thought I would share one of my secret places that I venture into to find and use these wonderments of programming code. ZDNET.COM is one of my favorite places to read and well look around for software. ZDNET once stood for Ziff-Davis publishing but has since been rolled into CBS Interactive. I typically don’t agree one hundred percent with some of the writers but heck I’m just a rebel that way I guess, but they do have a great listing of downloads to try out. So venture into the ZD world you may just find something to peak your computer software cravings.
