Lispey was taken into custody last week after police said they found him hiding in a secret room inside his wife’s house in Newark.
His wife, Raissa Jarosz Lipsey, 40, was also charged with concealing her husband from authorities for several weeks in the secret room inside her Newark home.
Kendall County’s Chief Judge Timothy McCann sentenced Lipsey to 53 years for the repeated sexual assault of a minor child, who was a relative of Lipsey’s, the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office said.
He was arrested and charged in July 2012 after a lengthy investigation by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and Kendall County Child Advocacy Center.
Authorities said that the abuse of the young female relative started in 2010.
During Thursday’s sentencing hearing, Kendall County sheriff’s deputies spoke of their efforts to find Lipsey over the past two months, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Prosecutors said that Lipsey removed his GPS monitor which was a condition of his tracking bond and went on the lam.
Also testifying at Lispey’s hearing was his female victim, who gave an impact statement on the effects Lipsey’s abuse had on her life. In her impact statement, the victim wondered if her life would ever be normal again, the Tribune reported.
“I’m still not the victim. I’ll never be a victim. I am a survivor and I will keep on surviving even though it’s tough,” she said.
Lipsey maintained his innocence in a written statement, regretting the “negative his wife and son, stating that his act was that of a “cornered animal.”
Before handing down the sentence, McCann called Lipsey’s actions “disgusting,” the Tribune reported.
Lipsey will be required to serve at least 85 percent of the five felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and 50 percent of his sentence on the aggravated sexual abuse charge.
The earliest he could be released is in 43 years, after which, he would be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and live under mandatory supervision.
