50 years along the Lincoln Highway: 1913-1963 Bus Tour
Saturday, May 18, 2013, you can join fellow Lincoln Highway enthusiasts and car buffs on a guided tour along the historic Lincoln Highway that will follow the original alignment of the famous roadway through Aurora, Oswego and Plainfield. Guides will share stories of the roadway’s construction, history, and notable sites during this day-long tour. At Aurora, stops include lunch at the historic Lincoln Highway Shelter at Phillip's Park and the nationally-designated "Auto Row,” the site of several showrooms and service garages along the famous highway. Bring your walking shoes; the day-long tour also includes an 8 block walking tour of historic Lincoln Highway gas stations and business sites in downtown Plainfield, including a 1928 gas station listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Classic automobiles are scheduled to be on display at selected sites along the route.
The Lincoln Highway Tour departs and returns from the Wheatland Salem Church, 1217 Wolf Rd. in Oswego. Early bird tickets are $30.00. Deadline for early bird tickets is April 26th.
