Group to Welcome Returning Soldier, Police Officer, Firefighter in Oswego

Scott Carter, an Aurora police officer and former firefighter paramedic, will return from a nine-month deployment.

Operation Welcome You Home will stage a welcome this Saturday for U.S. Army Sgt. Scott Carter, who is returning home from a nine-month deployment.

Carter, an Aurora police officer and former Kendall County Sheriff’s deputy, also worked as a firefighter/paramedic.

Staging is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Jewel-Osco, 3795 Orchard Road in Oswego, where a welcoming party will await Sgt. Carter and escort him to a party in his honor. A flag line will take place at the Oswego American Legion, 19 W. Washington St.

Carter returns to wife Shelly Carter, children Scott Jr. and Brianna, dad Harold Carter Sr., sister Sherrie Carter, mother Elizabeth Miller and grandfather Harold Carter Sr.

“Scott was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois. After graduation, Scott attended Waubonsee Community College. He was later hired by Kendall County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy and then by Aurora Police Department, where he still works as a police officer. He has been a police officer for more than 21 years. Scott was also a firefighter and paramedic for many years with Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District and South Elgin Fire Protection District. Scott is a proud third generation Army soldier. His father (Harold Carter Jr.)was a member of the 25th Infantry Division and is a Vietnam Veteran. His grandfather (Harold Carter Sr.) was a member of the 99th Infantry division and also served as an MP. His grandfather was a German POW for several months.

Scott is returning from GTMO, Cuba after a 9 month deployment with the 339th MP CO from Davenport, Iowa. They are attached to the 525th MP BN. Scott served as the Camp VI Operations NCO.”
