Kendall County Named Most Affordable Wedding Destination in Illinois: Website

NerdWallet used U.S. Census data to calculate the true cost of a wedding as a percentage of income.

Attention blushing brides- and grooms-to-be: If you’re planning a wedding, you may want to head to Kendall County.

According to consumer finance site NerdWallet.com, Kendall County was ranked as the most affordable wedding destination in Illinois.

The site used a wedding costs comparison tool to allow couples to compare wedding costs in nearly 3,000 counties nationwide.

NerdWallet explains how the rankings were made:

“The total cost of a wedding is the sum of average costs in the following categories (obtained from The Wedding Report): attire and accessories, beauty and spa, entertainment, flowers and decorations, gifts and favors, invitations, jewelry, photography and video, planner/consultant and venue catering and rentals. The average total cost assumes a couple spends the average amount on all of these categories. However, couples don’t always spend on all categories.

Median household income, used to calculate the true cost of a wedding (total wedding cost as a percentage of income), was obtained from the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey.”

“Affordable,” however, is a relative term: In Kendall County, where the median household income is $83,835, NerdWallet calculated the total wedding cost at $45,139. In nearby Will County, which has a lower average income, the cost was estimated at $45,039.

Kendall County ranked 23rd in the country in terms of wedding affordability. Ranking at No. 1 was Loudoun County, Virginia, with a median income of $122,068 and a total wedding cost of $51,281, according to NerdWallet.
