Dear Editor,
I commend the Oswego School District 308 board for being forward-thinking when it comes to helping reduce property taxes for area homeowners. Concern about increasing property taxes is the number one issue I encounter during my conversations with area families. The board’s recent decision to commit past due grant funding, if it is received from the state, to pay down debt and reduce property taxes should be applauded and embraced by other school districts.
While serving in the legislature in Springfield, I have pushed for a fiscally responsible state government, which spends taxpayer dollars efficiently and carefully. Over the past two years, I sponsored legislation providing tax relief to homeowners, veterans and seniors. I have also fought for property tax reform by proposing to cap property taxes when home values fall.
