Oswego’s Little White School Museum is seeking photos and memorabilia connected to Oswegoland residents’ military service for exhibit during their annual “Remembering our Veterans” salute, set for Saturday through Tuesday, Nov. 8-11, at the museum, 72 Polk Street (Jackson at Polk Street), in Oswego.

Assistant museum director Bob Stekl said the museum is seeking everything from formal military portraits and candid snapshots and slides taken during residents’ military service for exhibit during the event, to uniforms, documents related to their military service, and other related items.

“We prefer if donors give us the actual items,” Stekl said. “But in the case of photos and slides, we can usually scan the original and give it back to the owner the same day, if they bring them in during our regular archives and research hours.”
The museum’s research area is open Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon.

The museum has a growing collection of military photos, uniforms, documents, and other materials from the Civil War up through the current wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Each Veterans Day, the museum mounts an extensive temporary exhibit, drawing items from its collections that are rarely seen. In addition, each year’s exhibit features a “Wall of Honor” with photos of military personnel with local connections.
