Meet Your Legislators Tuesday in Montgomery
A group of your state and federal lawmakers will be on hand tomorrow to talk about the state and federal budget, inform about laws that affect seniors, and take your questions.

If you’ve ever wanted some face time with your state and federal legislators, you’re going to want to be at tomorrow morning.
At 10 a.m., U.S. Rep Randy Hultgren will join a cadre of state lawmakers, including State Representatives Tom Cross, Kay Hatcher and Linda Chapa LaVia, and State Sen. Linda Holmes. And on the agenda will be an overview of the state budget, and a look at some legislation that is affecting—or will soon affect—seniors.
According to Hultgren spokesman Andrew Flach, the congressman will focus on “the budget, the recent debt ceiling debate, Medicare and Social Security.” And Hatcher said she would be introducing her own piece of legislation, to add reguations covering those who run estate sales, and talking about it at Tuesday’s seminar.

"I've heard so many horror stories about people who say they're professionals, and then (run a) bait and switch, or sell (the items) to friends, or leave with the money," she said. "We're researching what consumer protections we can bring to this."
But while Tuesday’s meeting may focus on seniors, Hatcher said it will be of interest to everyone, since the economy has affected all of us.

“Whether it’s the price of gas, or a neighbor purchasing something that has sales tax that helps the community, all of us are equally affected,” she said. “Our goal is to have an economy and a community that serves everyone.”
