Navy League to Meet Feb. 17 in Montgomery
You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend.

The Aurora Navy League Council 247 will hold its monthly dinner meeting on Tuesday, February 17. The meeting will be held in the private dining room at the rear (east side) of: Grandma’s Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Rd., Montgomery, IL 60538 (just north of Rte 30).
A reception will begin at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The dinner includes a choice of three entrees (fish, chicken, or beef), soup or salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert, and nonalcoholic drink. The cost is $17 all-inclusive (alcoholic drinks can be purchased separately).
You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend the meeting--the general public is welcome. The Navy League is a civilian organization started by President Teddy Roosevelt to provide civilian support the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and Sea Cadets.

The after dinner speakers will be Campus Police Sgt. Lawrence Stefanski, Sr., who will speak on “Personal Safety for Older People.” Sgt. Stefanski teaches a course in personal safety at Waubonsee Jr. College, and will cover topics to preserve and protect items such as your home, auto, and financial & other assets (e.g., credit cards). He will use a slide presentation to illustrate and reinforce these valuable lessons we all should learn.
Sgt. Stefanski was born and raised in Aurora, graduating high school in 1977 from Marmion Military Academy. He continued my education at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota, graduating in 1981 with a degree in Criminal Justice.He has been in Law Enforcement for 32 years. In 2009, after 23 years of service, he retired from the Oswego Police Department as a Master Sergeant. For the past three years he has been the Patrol Sergeant for the Waubonsee Community College Police Department, and has taught the “Life Long Learning” course on personal safety. Sgt. Stefanski and his wife live in Montgomery. God has blessed them with 7 children and 3 grandchildren (as he puts it “so far.”)

The Aurora Council is having a membership drive, and will pay half of the first year’s dues for new members. This is an excellent opportunity to attend an interesting event, and determine whether you would like to join permanently.
