District 308 Board Votes to Nix Dual Language

Two weeks after receiving options from administrators, board makes decision.

The Oswego school board had two options: expand the Dual Language program, or end it.

On Monday, despite protest from some parents, the board voted for the latter option, a move that spells the end of the two-way immersion program dedicated to helping English- and Spanish-speaking students master both languages.

The change means that English-speaking students currently enrolled in the program will be returned to classes conducted only in English, while a new program will be launched for Spanish-speaking students, the Beacon News reported. Board members Matt Bauman, Alison Swanson and Mike McDowell voted against the change.
