Photo Gallery: First Day of School at Nicholson Elementary

Kids piled off of buses and out of cars Wednesday morning for the first day of the 2011-2012 school year at Nicholson Elementary in Montgomery, and among them were the school's first all-day kindergarten students.

The transformation was fast, and remarkable.

At 7:30 a.m., in Montgomery was empty, with few signs of life. At 7:40 a.m. it was teeming with children, who piled off buses and out of cars to line up for the first day of school.

Among them were the first full-day kindergarten students at Nicholson. The West Aurora School Board approved full-day kindergarten classes in February.

Gina Adams is the mother of one of those kindergarten students, five-year-old Ryan Adams, as well as seven-year-old second-grader Stacy Adams. Gina said she put her kids on the bus, but drove to the school to meet them anyway, just to make sure they got to their classes all right.

"It's their first day," she said, beaming.
