Operation Welcome You Home is gearing up for its 4th Annual Wounded 5K Warrior and is still looking for registrants.

The 5K helps raise money for wounded veterans in need. Last year the group bought several action track wheelchairs, which are customized for each warrior in need and cost between $15,000 and $18,000. The organization was also able to purchase a John Deere riding lawn mower with a snow blower for a warrior. In addition, house cleaning services were provided to the wife of a wounded warrior, as she was too busy taking care of her husband.

Registration will be open until the day of the event, May 23.

“We’re capped at 1,200 this year,” said OWYH Founder Donna Morsovillo. “We’ll go until that number is reached.”

April 30 is the last day to register to guarantee a free T-shirt. All participants this year, both runners and walkers, that finish the 5K will receive a finishing medal. A live results station will allow runners to see their results as soon as they cross the finish line. In addition, three water stations will be positioned throughout the race and free downloadable photos of the race, registrants, sponsors and more will be available after.

Morsovillo said that while all causes are great, this one is really special.

“It’s honoring the men and women who protect our freedom,” she said.

The 5K will be held at 8 a.m. May 23 at Settler’s Park in Plainfield.
