Winter Chill Arrives Early in Will, Kendall Counties

Frosty temperatures are arriving about two weeks ahead of typical years.

While the Chicago area has been spared the winter storms that have proven deadly in other parts of the Midwest, cold temperatures are arriving earlier than scheduled.

WGN’s Tom Skilling this week reported that temperatures this week are about 20 degrees lower than norms for this time of year, and the colder weather is arriving two weeks earlier than it has historically. Since 1871, Nov. 29 is historically recognized as the average date when the Chicago area first sees a high temperature that fails to reach 30 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, the Will and Kendall county-area will see a high near 30 on Thursday, with a low around 19 Thursday night. Temperatures will be much the same on Friday, according to the forecast.
