Edward Hospital Reports 43 Coronavirus Inpatients, 254 Recoveries

NAPERVILLE, IL — Edward Hospital in Naperville is currently treating 43 patients with the new coronavirus, according to Edward-Elmhurst Health spokesperson Keith Hartenberger. Hartenberger told Patch Monday that there have been 34 coronavirus-related deaths at the hospital in total and that two men in their 60s from DuPage County died at the hospital in the last 72 hours.

Amid the somber numbers came a bit of good news. According to Hartenberger, 254 patients have recovered from coronavirus and been sent home since March 24. Since early Sunday, six patients who recovered from the virus were released from the hospital, Hartenberger said.

Since April, Edward Hospital has been placing decorative daffodils on the hospital grounds to honor each patient who has recovered from coronavirus. Live daffodils are also given to each coronavirus patient when they are released as they are seen as a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings.

Edward Hospital's number of coronavirus inpatients has also decreased since mid-April, when the hospital was treating 57 patients with coronavirus.
