More Than 300 Cars Burglarized In Naperville In 2018: Cops
Naperville police are reminding residents to keep their cars locked at all times and to keep valuables out of sight.
NAPERVILLE, IL -- Naperville police are urging residents to keep their cars locked at all times as burglaries continue to surge throughout Chicago's suburbs. In 2018 alone, there were more than 300 vehicle burglaries reported in Naperville, according to police.
This follows a trend that has been seen throughout surrounding cities and towns in which burglars target cars that have been left unlocked or that have the keys still inside the vehicle. According to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, crews of burglars often drive into a neighborhood from Chicago and leave a vehicle running and unattended with the doors open to make for a fast getaway.
The Naperville Police Department reminded residents to keep their cars locked and to keep keys and other valuables out of the vehicle and out of sight. Law enforcement officials also urge residents not to leave their vehicles running and unattended, as that may encourage vehicle theft.

Police advise that residents can use the city's interactive incident map to track motor vehicle burglaries and thefts to see if any have taken place near their homes, as many of these burglaries take place within a concentrated area. In Downers Grove, multiple cars were burglarized, a car was stolen, and a stolen Hummer was found within a small radius in late February.
Last March, police in nearby Glen Ellyn said nearly 90 percent of cars that were burglarized in the village had been left unlocked.
