MRSA May Have Struck Again at Naperville Central

While tests have not yet come back, a swimmer at the school may have been infected.

NAPERVILLE, IL - Another possible case of MRSA, a type of staph infection, may have broken out at Naperville Central.

Naperville Unit District 203 spokeswoman Michelle Fregoso told the Daily Herald a member of the girl’s swimming team may have been affected, but the test results have not yet been received.

In the meantime, the school’s pool deck, swimming equipment and locker rooms have been disinfected, according to the report.

MRSA is resistant to several antibiotics and is spread through contact with an infected wound or by sharing personal items, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

“MRSA infection risk can be increased when a person is in activities or places that involve crowding, skin-to-skin contact, and shared equipment or supplies,” the CDC said.
