Naperville Names New Deputy Police Chief
Mike Anders has been named Deputy Police Chief for the Patrol Division for the Naperville Police Department.

The City of Naperville is pleased to announce that Mike Anders has been named Deputy Police Chief for the Patrol Division. Anders most recently served in the Naperville Police Department as Patrol Watch Commander.
“Mike’s talent and passion for police work, in addition to his strong leadership skills and diverse experience in this field, make him an outstanding candidate for this position,” Police Chief Robert Marshall said. “I look forward to working with Mike in this new role and know this is the best move for our Police Department as a whole.”

In his new role, Anders will be in charge of the Patrol Division, which employs 166 individuals. The goal of the Patrol Division is to address community problems and assure a safe community environment through directed and routine patrol. As the largest and most visible division of the Police Department, the Patrol Division provides the first response to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
“I’m thankful for the chance to make an even greater impact in our Patrol Division,” Anders said. “This is not only a great opportunity but also a great responsibility. The Patrol Division are the people out on the streets working proactively to keep our community safe. I will take great pride in being able to help make Naperville’s quality of life even more outstanding.”

Anders has held several positions since first joining the Naperville Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 1990. He has served as a selective enforcement unit, general assignment, and major crimes investigator; a patrol and traffic section sergeant; and traffic section, research and development section, and special response team commander. In addition, he has also served as Deputy Coordinator of the Office of Emergency Management.
During his time with the Police Department, Anders developed violent encounter staff training for businesses and public and private organizations throughout Naperville, created the agency’s first Continuity of Operations Plan for Emergency Management, developed a training handbook for newly promoted supervisors and coordinated and directed award winning traffic enforcement efforts as recognized by the International Association of Chiefs and Police and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.
Anders received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Winona State University and has participated in several professional development opportunities, including the School of Police Staff and Command and the Senior Manager’s Leadership Program at Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety.
