'Person Of Interest' Sought After Shot Fired In Naperville Park

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville police are looking for a "person of interest" less than a week after a shot was fired at someone during an argument on a Naperville basketball court. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered by Naperville Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest.

Police were called to the 700 block of Genesee Drive around 7:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Shortly after, police found a man who fit the suspect's description near North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive. The suspect ran off on foot and police were unable to locate him during a subsequent search involving a K-9 unit.

An initial investigation shows that the suspect got into an argument with another person, retrieved a handgun from a bag and then fired a shot, according to a news release. Police say no one was hit by gunfire, but a shell casing was found in the area.

Tuesday morning, police shared an image of a "person of interest" who may have been involved in the shot-fired incident. The "person of interest" was described as a Black man who is between 20 and 30 years old and has short hair and tattoos. Police say he stands between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall with a thin build.
