Record Number Of Coronavirus Patients Hospitalized At Edward

NAPERVILLE, IL —Edward Hospital is currently treating its highest number of coronavirus patients since the start of the pandemic nearly two years ago. The news, which comes following Christmas and New Year's celebrations throughout the United States, reflects an ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases nationwide.

As of Monday, 113 coronavirus patients were in treatment at Edward Hospital, according to data from Edward-Elmhurst Health. This is over 16 percent more patients than Edward Hospital's previous record of 97 coronavirus inpatients on Nov. 13, 2020.

Of the 113 patients, 60 were not vaccinated against coronavirus, 33 were vaccinated and three were partially vaccinated, the data indicated. Over the past four days, 72 patients who were treated for coronavirus had been discharged from Edward Hospital.

Ahead of New Year's Eve, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike issued a warning to residents to take precautions against coronavirus if they were to attend holiday gatherings. Pritzker said "Omicron and delta are coming to your party, so you need to think twice about how many people will be gathered together."
