NAPERVILLE, IL - A 17-year-old Naperville boy faces felony charges for bringing a gun to Metea Valley High School on Monday, police said.
The boy, a student at the high school, is in the custody of juvenile authorities on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.
Police were called to Metea Valley at about 1:40 p.m. after students told staff about a rumor regarding the student bringing the gun to school, Principal Darrell Echols said in a phone message to parents Monday.

School administrators and the Aurora Police School Resource Officer assigned to Metea immediately located the student and found the semiautomatic handgun in the boy’s backpack, according to an Aurora Police Department press release. There was no ammunition found either in the boy’s possession or in his locker or vehicle.
The teen did not make any threats toward anyone at the school and told authorities he had no intention of using the weapon. However, he could offer no explanation as to why he brought the gun, which is believed to belong to one of his parents, to school. No further charges are expected.
