'Say Her Name' Explores Death Of Sandra Bland At Music Box

Bland became nationally known after she was found dead from apparent suicide in a jail cell after a traffic stop in 2015.

CHICAGO, IL --- The Music Box in Chicago will host advance screenings of the HBO documentary about Sandra Bland, a former Naperville resident and activist for racial justice who died while in police custody in Texas in 2015. 'Say Her Name: The Life And Death Of Sandra Bland,' will play at four different showings at Music Box, including a special screening with a question and answer session hosted by the late Bland's sister and her attorney.

Bland was 28 years old when she was pulled over in Texas and arrested after a traffic violation. Police say they found Bland dead in her jail cell three days later after she reportedly hanged herself.

In the time since Bland's death, her family and friends have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her alleged suicide. After dash cam footage of an exchange between Bland and the officer arresting her was made public, protests erupted throughout the U.S., with some people speculating that Bland was a victim of police brutality.
