Former Miami U, Lincoln-Way Placekicker Charged With Sexual Assault

An arrest warrant was issued for the record-setting placekicker.

A record-setting Lincoln-Way Central placekicker who went on to play for the University of Miami is wanted on felony sex charges.

Jake Wieclaw, 25, faces charges of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with alleged crimes involving a teenage girl.

Wieclaw, a New Lenox resident, would have been 24 at the time of the alleged incidents, which took place on Jan. 27 and 28, 2014, according to an indictment filed in Will County court. The girl was at least 13 but younger than 18, the indictment said.

At the time of the alleged crime, Wieclaw had been working for Lincoln-Way School District as a paraprofessional and was also a volunteer football coach, said district spokeswoman Stacy Holland. He resigned within a week of the alleged incident.

As a four-year starter for Lincoln-Way Central, Wieclaw set the state record for most career field goals, kicking 48. He also set the state record for most field goals in a season with 19 in 2006.

Wieclaw graduated in 2007 and continued playing football at Miami. He kicked 30 field goals over the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The warrant for Wieclaw’s arrest carries a $100,000 bond.
