Two women were attacked while jogging.

A New Lenox man was arrested after two women told police they were attacked while jogging on Old Plank Road Trail Monday night. Victor Hermida-Cortez, 25, in the 1000 block of Stone Gate, New Lenox, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery. A Will County Forest Preserve District spokeswoman told reporters the first attack happened at 6:30 p.m. to a 25-year-old woman who was knocked to the ground near Bluestone Bay Drive as Hermida-Cortez rode his bike past her. About 15 minutes later, he knocked down a 19-year-old woman from behind near Constitution Road and assaulted her, knocking out some of her teeth. She was seriously injured but was able to get away. She was treated at Silver Cross Hospital.

Hermida-Cortez was hit by a car as he tried to flee from the scene. A New Lenox police officer on a motorcycle rode onto the trail, found him walking with his bike and took him into custody. On Tuesday, his bail was set at $100,000 before a Will County judge.
