Starbucks Opening New Store In New Lenox: Mayor

Mayor Tim Baldermann remains excited about New Lenox's continued growth and development.

NEW LENOX, IL - In recent months, there were several news articles around the country about the Starbucks company planning to close at least 150 stores. But what's happening in New Lenox bucks the trend. Mayor Tim Baldermann told New Lenox Patch this week that Starbucks intends to open a new store near the CVS Pharmacy development under construction along Route 30 near Cedar Road.

Besides CVS Pharmacy as the anchor tenant, the commercial plaza also includes Darla's Cafe, Durbin's and now Starbucks is part of the mix, the mayor said.

"It's really good, definitely," Baldermann said. "They're realizing how much we're growing. And it speaks volumes about peoples' desires to locate in New Lenox both commercially and residentially."

The mayor said it's his understanding that the development will go before the New Lenox planning commission for discussion and feedback at the September meeting.

New Lenox has two Starbucks coffee shops at the moment, a standalone store near Lowe's and another Starbucks is located inside of the Target store, the mayor said.

He believes the addition of a Starbucks near the CVS Pharmacy, which is near the Metra line, will be a great asset for the overall redevelopment project. Baldermann said he was not certain on the time frame for opening the new Starbucks.

"I haven't seen all of their plans," he said.
