2 Men Battle the Des Plaines River After Crash—and Win
The duo—including a Niles man—didn't suffer serious injuries after Sunday night's accident.

Two men escaped potentially dire consequences Sunday night after the vehicle they were in crashed near the Des Plaines River in Schiller Park, and the two ended up in the rain-swollen waterway, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The vehicle the men were in hit a guard rail at around 9 p.m. Sunday, July 24, on River Road, eventually ending up in a forest preserve with dense vegetation, the report stated. Schiller Park and Rosemont firefighters began a search after witnesses told them the men never returned to the road after the accident, the report added.
One of the men who was from Niles was found by Schiller Park police about two miles away, walking near River Road and Cumberland Avenue, the Tribune reports. The man said he had been dragged about a mile downriver before escaping the current, report stated. The second man also was found later by rescuers, the report added.
