On Aug. 8, someone stole an unlocked bicycle from outside the Walgreens in the 5700 block of Dempster Street, police were told.

On Aug. 11, a resident in the 6500 block of Lyons Street reported that someone tried to open multiple credit accounts using his name.
THEFT
On Aug. 11, a patron at a store in the 6700 block of Dempster Street reported that she had put her purse in a shopping cart and momentarily stepped away to try on shoes. When she went back to the cart the purse was gone, police said. The purse was later found but the patron told police it was missing $800.
ARRESTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Sherwin Dubren, 79, of the 7200 block of Foster Avenue, was arrested Aug. 4 in the 7200 block of Foster Avenue. He was charged with criminal damage for allegedly using a nail to scratch multiple vehicles. Police said he was witnessed damaging the cars by a neighbor and they responded and arrested him at the scene.
Dubren was not described as uncooperative, but "he wasn't exactly working with us either," according to Cmdr. Paul Yaras.
VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION
Cathy Koppe, 62, of the 6300 block of Touhy Avenue in Niles, was arrested Aug. 14 in the 9300 block of Murray Court. She was charged with violating an order of protection against her issued by a court.
