As summer comes to an end, the Niles Public Library announces its Local History Author Events coming this September.
Wed., Sept. 12, from 7-8:30pm: Native son Thomas E. Ferraro presents an illustrated lecture based on his new book, Niles: The Early Years, as he discusses the origins of the village from its beginnings as Dutchman’s Point in 1832 and on up to 1954 and the historic Tam O’Shanter Country Club.
Sun., Sept. 16, from 2-3:30pm: Historian Dr. Ann Durkin Keating presents an illustrated lecture based on her latest book, Rising Up From Indian Country, treating the Battle of Fort Dearborn and the birth of Chicago in this bicentenary year of the War of 1812.

Sun., Sept. 23, from 2-3:30pm: Dr. Theodore J. Karamanski of Loyola University explains the profound effect of the Civil War upon Chicago’s development as a major city in a slide-lecture format based on his book, Rally ’Round the Flag.
Wed., Sept. 26, from 7-8:30pm: Journalist Andrew Schneider discusses his new book, Nick Blase: The Prince of Niles, chronicling the contributions and sometimes Machiavellian career of the legendary and longest serving mayor of the village.
