Maine South High School senior Paul Preston has accepted a scholarship from Winona State University in Minnesota to play Division II football.
Saying that Paul will be missed in the Hawks’ program, Maine South Varsity Football Coach David Inserra noted that Paul twice earned honors as a Central Suburban League All-Conference performer. Paul was the Hawks’ team MVP and Captain in 2011, a Pioneer Press and Bugle Newspaper All-Area player and was selected to play in the IHSFCA All-Star game in July at Illinois Wesleyan University. After his junior season, he received Honorable Mention in the Chicago Tribune’s All-State selections.
A running back and kick returner, Paul's two-year total numbers were 245 carries for 2,231 yards (9.1 yards per carry), 49 receptions for 530 yards (10.8 yards per reception) and 21 returns for 656 yards (31.23 yards per return) with 41 total touchdowns. He was part of two CSL South Conference Championships and the 2010 8A State Championship. Paul’s teams went 23-3 in two years.
