Northbrook Nail Salon Armed Robbers Caught In Niles: Police

A juvenile was tased and a Chicago man surrendered to a police dog Saturday in Niles, police said.

NILES, IL — A 19-year-old Chicago man surrendered to a police dog and a fleeing juvenile was tased after two suspected armed robbers led cops on a chase through the northern suburbs Saturday, police said. Two armed suspects reportedly robbed Northbrook Towne Nails, 1512 Shermer Rd., just before 2:14 p.m. Witnesses told police they entered the nail salon, demanding purses and phones from customers and taking cash from the register.

No one was injured before the pair fled the scene. Northbrook police said a local alert was dispatched to surrounding agencies. Niles police said they intercepted the suspects as Northbrook officers chased them south down Milwaukee Avenue heading to Oakton Street around 2:45 p.m.

As Niles patrol cars were headed north on Milwaukee to intercept, the suspects' car pulled into the parking lot at Jerry's Fruit & Garden in the 7900 block of Milwaukee Avenue, police said.

One of the suspected robbers "gave up after K-9 Ave was deployed," but the other jumped another fence and tried to continue to run away, according to Niles Police Cmdr. Robert Tornabene.
