Guerin Prep Expands Athletics Program
New Athletic Director and Coaches Join College Preparatory High School
CHICAGO, IL – (June 27, 2016) – Guerin College Preparatory High School (Guerin Prep) announces the expansion of its athletics department with a new athletic director. Guerin Prep (www.guerinprep.org), a Catholic, co-educational college preparatory school situated on a 23-acre campus in River Grove on Chicago’s Northwest side, serves approximately 450 students from Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
Robert Carlson will oversee more than 20 athletic teams at Guerin Prep as the new athletic director. He joins Guerin Prep after serving as athletic director at Regina High School in Wilmette, IL for the past seven years.
In addition to Carlson, Mark Morgan joins Guerin Prep’s football team as the new head football coach. Morgan was previously the head football coach at Chicago Golder College Prep. Morgan replaces Glen Kozlowski, who stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

Guerin also welcomes back Holy Cross alum Adam Szyszko (‘91) as the new varsity boys basketball coach. Szyszko, whose background includes teaching and coaching, spent the last two seasons at South Suburban Jr. College. With a record of 34-3 this year, his basketball team finished 3rd in the nation, setting a school record for wins and tying for best record in the nation.
“We’re looking forward to our new athletic leaders bringing fresh perspectives and motivating philosophies to our school,” said Steve Baldwin, President, Guerin College Preparatory High School. “This bold move will position Guerin Prep’s athletics program at a higher level, to match the reputation we’ve earned in academics,” said Baldwin. Guerin Prep students must meet standards that are higher than Illinois High School Association standards in order to participate in the athletics program.

As athletic director, Carlson is responsible for overseeing all sports teams; directing coaches, scheduling, purchasing, fundraising and communicating with parents. According to Carlson, a priority is to “increase the number of athletic events, clinics and workshops for student athletes, and to develop new programs that continue to attract students to Guerin Prep.”
Mark Morgan will kick off the football season with clinics beginning this summer. “My goal is to build on the successes of the past few seasons and develop a team that remains competitive, thrives and brings home the championship,” said Morgan Szyszko, a St. Ferdinand graduate, is happy to be back in the neighborhood, adding, “I’m excited about coming home.”
