Image Released Of Vehicle In Deadly Morton Grove Hit-And-Run
The family of a grandfather struck and killed last month while crossing Shermer Road has doubled a reward for information to $20,000.

MORTON GROVE, IL — Police released an image Friday of a vehicle suspected of fatally striking a pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident last month, as the family of the Morton Grove grandfather doubled the reward for information leading to the identification of the person responsible.
Leo Belogur, 86, was a father of three and grandfather of seven who immigrated from eastern Europe in the late 1980s, according to his family.
Around 5 p.m. on Jan. 4, Belogur was struck and killed by a southbound car as he crossed Shermer Road at Grenwood Street, police said.

Belogur's family is now offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver.
"Four weeks later, we are still in total shock and disbelief that someone could kill an innocent person by striking him with their vehicle and leaving him dead in the street," his family said in a statement. "We are certain that someone out there must have some information that can help us get justice for our father. We are asking the public that if they know anything about the accident to please contact the Morton Grove PD."

Morton Grove police have obtained a video showing the vehicle that hit Belogur and fled the scene, according to Cmdr. Paul Yaras. Investigators are retracing the path of the hit-and-run driver, handing out fliers and speaking with residents, he said in a community alert.

"This investigation will continue as we work towards finding the person responsible for ending Leo’s life in such a tragic manner," Yaras said.
Police have learned the vehicle is a light-colored four-door with windshield damage. It may also have had visible front end damage.
The image was taken from a video that has been enhanced by the FBI and may be further enhanced by a private partner. State police and the Illinois Department of Transportation, as well as auto repair and insurance companies, have so far assisted police in the investigation, Yaras said.
Anyone with information about the vehicle pictured or the incident was asked to contact the Morton Grove Police Department at 847-470-5200.
