'Intoxicated' Knife-Wielding Robber Caught: Police
He stabbed one of the victims and stole a bicycle to flee, police say.

NILES, IL — A Glenview man accused of trying to rob a man and woman in a parking lot, stabbing one and stealing a bicycle to flee has been arrested, police said.
A knife-wielding Ryan M. Whary, 35, was intoxicated when he accosted the pair in a parking lot on the 8500 block of Golf Road on Feb. 20 around 9:30 p.m., police said.
He held a knife to their throats, threatening to kill them unless they turned over their valuables, according to police.

The man he was trying to rob fought back, chasing Whary across Golf Road where the fleeing failed robber managed to steal a bicycle to make his escape, police said.
His pursuer suffered a stab wound in the ensuing altercation, a police spokesperson said.

On Friday, Niles detectives put together a photo lineup identifying Whary as a suspect in the robbery and shared it with nearby police departments.
A short while later, Glenview police located him staying at a Motel 6 on Milwaukee, where a clerk confirmed his location. Niles police were called, arrested Whary without incident and interviewed him before announcing charges.
Whary, of the 3800 block of Rugen Road in Glenview, has been charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery, unlawful use of weapon and theft.
Niles police said he was already wanted for a nationwide warrant out of Kentucky for parole violation.
