Niles PD: Forgery Arrest, Drivers Found Asleep, With Beer, With Pipe
Niles Arrest Reports: June 2 - June 9

NILES, IL — The following information comes from the Niles Police Department as a record of police activity. All persons named are presumed innocent, an an arrest is not an indication of guilt. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations.
FORGERY
Carlis A. Williams, 51, of the 1400 block of West 77th Street in Chicago, was arrested June 2 at 12:32 p.m. and charged with forgery. Officers responded to to a call of deceptive practices at a currency exchange in the 7500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. Police said Williams was trying to cash a $755 forged check and the caller recognized him from a previous incident. Cook County prosecutors approved felony charges.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Kamal R. Sharma, 40, of the 8200 block of Elizabeth was arrested June 6 at 2:42 a.m. and charged with drunk driving. Police said he was found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle, off to the side of the road at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Oak Street. Police said a breathalyzer was offered and Sharma was found to be under the influence. He was booked, processed and released pending his court date.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Daniel J. Thompson, 20, of the 5100 block of Greenleaf Street in Skokie, was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. on June 7 in the 6900 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with drunk driving. Police said he was pulled over for running a stop sign and found with an open bottle of beer in his car. The arresting officer said he demonstrated standard field sobriety tests and offered the driver a breathalyzer test. Police said Thompson demonstrated signs of impairment.He was also cited for disobeying a traffic control device and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was booked, processed and released pending his court date.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Nestor Perez, 24, of the 8200 block of Milwaukee Avenue, was arrested June 7 at 2:30 a.m. and charged with drugged driving after being pulled over at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Waukegan Road. Police said he was stopped for speeding and improper lane usage. Perez was found to have a pipe, which police believed was used for smoking marijuana. The officer explained and demonstrated standard field sobriety tests and offered a breathalyzer. Perez showed signs of impairment, police said. He was cited for improper lane usage, speeding and possession of drug paraphernalia in addition to driving under the influence of drugs. He was booked, processed and released on bond pending his court date.
