Suspected Dealer Busted, Bedroom Ransacked For Jewelry: Morton Grove Crime

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following is a record of incidents and arrests from the Morton Grove Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
INTENT TO DELIVER MARIJUANA
Mujtaba Asif, 21, of the 13000 block of Finley Road in Lombard, was pulled over for a traffic violation May 31 in the 8600 block of Austin Avenue. Police said an officer detected the smell of cannabis and conducted a search, finding cannabis, a scale, baggies and cash in the vehicle. Asif was arrested for possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

NO DRIVERS LICENSE
On May 30, a 31-year-old Chicago man, of the 4000 block of St. Louis Avenue, was stopped for a traffic violation in the 7200 block of Dempster Street. He was found to be driving without a license and arrested, police said.

THEFT
On May 19, someone cut the lock off a locker in the 7300 block of Dempster Street and stole a wallet, police were told.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone broke the driver's side window of a vehicle parked in the 8600 block of Ferris Avenue on May 21, although there was nothing missing from the vehicle, police were told.
ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
A resident of the 8900 block of Oriole Avenue told police on May 25 that she found the basement door window had been broken, but no entry was thought to have been made into the house.
BURGLARY
The rear door to the a home in the 8500 block of Major Avenue was forced open on May 27 and the master bedroom was ransacked for jewelry, a resident reported.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 5400 block of Washington Road found that the siding on the east side of his home damaged on June 2.
BICYCLE THEFT
On June 4, someone stole a Scott bike from the Metra Station in the 8500 block of Lehigh Avenue, police were told.
THEFT
On June 4, someone stole a towel, shirt and car key from an unlocked locker in Oriole Park while their owner was swimming, it was reported to police.
