This Weekend at the Niles Public Library

Saturday, September 19:

11:00 am - 4:00 pm: Smash Box Weekend: Grand Opening of Creative Studio and Wonder Ground (Day 1)
Get an exclusive sneak peek at our new spaces The Creative Studio & Wonder Ground on Saturday and Sunday!

[Large Meeting Room – 11:00 am - 4:00 pm]
Teens and adults can watch a live demo of a 3D printer as well as how to use a GoPro camera. Also, make a small project using a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and sewing machines. Using our portable green screen, get your photo taken with our famous Summer Reading Club mascot Glummy around the world.

Kids can have fun exploring these Wonder Ground themes and STEAM concepts: Examine the physics of sound, preview the capabilities of circuitry with littleBits, explore the rock cycle with geology, and set your eyes and hands on the science of light and mirrors.

[Creative Studio A on the Lower Level]
Take an “Ah-Ha” Tour of Studio A and stick around for fun activities using the new equipment throughout the day.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm Create your own newscast.

1:00 - 2:00 pm Lip-synch Idol: Make a music video for your favorite songs.

2:30 - 3:30 pm Podcast Talk Show: Be our guest on a talk show. We will interview you about a topic you choose.

[Wonder Ground in KidSpace]
Join us for a quick tour and an activity in Wonder Ground.

2:00 pm - 3:30 pm: Anime & Manga Club
Gather with fellow fans to watch and discuss anime and manga, draw fan art, make cosplay costumes and plan the Fandom Fest scheduled for Nov. 21.

Sunday, September 20:

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Smash Box Weekend: Grand Opening of Creative Studio and Wonder Ground (Day 2)
Get an exclusive sneak peek at our new spaces The Creative Studio & Wonder Ground on Saturday and Sunday! To celebrate the opening of Wonder Ground, join us in the Large Meeting Room at 2:00 pm for “Getting Excited About Science” featuring scientist Steve Belliveau.

Take an “Ah-Ha” Tour of The Creative Studio A & B on the Lower Level from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and Wonder Ground in KidSpace from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Become inspired or discovery something new!

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Getting Excited About Science
To celebrate the grand opening of the Wonder Ground, Scientist Steve Belliveau returns with a surprise-filled program especially geared toward elementary schoolers! Tickets will be available at the KidSpace desk beginning at 1:30 pm.
