Woman Dies After Clothes Catch Fire While Cooking

87-year-old Morton Grove woman was heating up water in her kitchen Friday.

MORTON GROVE, IL — A woman's clothes caught fire while as she was heating water in her kitchen Friday morning, causing fatal injuries, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Alice Gutenkauf, 87, of the 8400 block of Mason Avenue in Morton Grove, suffered first and third-degree burns to more than two thirds of her body before she was taken to Lutheran General in Park Ridge and later to Loyola in Maywood, where she died shortly after 8:30 p.m, authorities said.

An autopsy conducted Saturday ruled her death accidental.
