• Waukegan man allegedly flees from police at high rate of speed before crashing into vehicle, fleeing on foot in Beach Park (lakemchenryscanner.com) — North Chicago police say a speeding driver refused to stop near 12th Street and Jackson, ran multiple stop signs, and then crashed into another car in Beach Park before fleeing on foot. Deputies later arrested a Waukegan man who allegedly admitted driving and showed signs of intoxication. He now faces multiple DUI, fleeing, and traffic charges and remains jailed pending another detention hearing.

• VA awards $38,899,927 in grants to fight Veteran homelessness in Illinois Lovell Federal health care (va.gov) — From its North Chicago base, the VA has announced nearly $39 million in grants for 25 Illinois organizations that help Veterans who are homeless or at risk. The funding, part of a record national investment, will support housing, prevention, and intensive services through SSVF and GPD programs. Local Veterans could see expanded support and more stable housing options in coming years.
