4 Shoplifters Snatch 12 Purses; Fake Boss Scams Employee: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Northbrook Police Blotter for Sept. 20 - Sept. 26

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a checkbook from inside an unlocked car parked at Northbrook Court between 1 and 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.

THEFT
A resident in the 2000 block of Big Oak Lane reported that someone stole various belongings between 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 and 8:11 a.m. on Sept. 21.

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY
Staff at the Buffalo Wild Wings at 1018 Willow Road reported receiving a fake $100 bill. It was believed to have been used to pay for an order picked up between 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 21 and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 22.

SHOPLIFTING
Four unidentified women or girls stole about 12 purses from the Saks Off Fifth, 127 Skokie Blvd, ran out of the store and fled into a vehicle. Police provided no description of the vehicle or suspects.

THEFT
A shopper at the Mariano's at 784 Skokie Blvd. reported at 2:11 p.m. on Sept. 22 that an unidentified thief had stolen a cell phone from their shopping cart.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone broke a window of a parked car and stole a purse from inside prior to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Techny Prairie Park.

FORGERY
A resident in the 1900 block of Raymond Drive reported around 3 p.m. on Sept. 24 that they had gotten a call from a purported creditor about a late payment. A bank reported a check had been altered and cashed out of state.

COMPUTER TAMPERING
A Picardy Circle resident reported on the afternoon of Sept. 24 that they had used an internet repair company, which said the resident had been due a refund. After refusing information, the resident reported being unable to use their computer.

FRAUD
A Washington Drive resident reported on the afternoon of Sept. 27 that they had received a scam email purporting to be from their employer asking to buy $1,000 worth of gift cards for fellow employees. The resident made the purchase and provided the gift card numbers. After being asked for $2,000 worth of additional cards, the resident contacted the company, learned the emails were fraudulent and did not make a second purchase.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 38-year-old Chicago man arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop for using an electronic device while driving near the intersection of Techny Road and Butternut Lane.

A 29-year-old Highland Park man was arrested at 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 24 following a traffic stop for an equipment violation near the intersection of Midway and Dundee roads. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for suspended registration and no proof of insurance.

A 51-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 11:20 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the area of Shermer and Holste roads and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop for impeding traffic.
