Said founder David Klitzky, “This has been another challenging year for everyone in this economic environment. My wife, Marlowe and I are energized every year by the student art shows. ‘The Lisa Show’ gives us the opportunity to give back to the community annually and honor our daughter Lisa’s memory. I personally enjoy meeting all 600 students to discuss their art, the medium they used, their techniques, color pallet, future goals and what inspires them to create their art.”

“At Mesirow Financial, we believe in the importance of education and art in education,” said Richard Mesirow, vice chairman, Investment Advisory, before he presented the scholarships. “This program teaches the students valuable lessons they can use in what ever career path they choose later in life. We are pleased to be a part of this unique program that provides support to local high schools.”

About The Lisa Show
After being in business for 23 years the founders of The Great Frame Up, David and Marlowe Klitzky, realized funds for local high school art programs were diminishing. In 1994, they introduced (Creative Self Expression) The Lisa Show, a program where their five Chicago-area The Great Frame Up stores adopted community high schools art departments. In 2003, The Klitzky's renamed the program: The Lisa Show = Life is Simply Art, in honor of their daughter Lisa, a graphic designer, who lost her battle with a very rare form of cancer at 25.

The stores sponsor 21 juried art exhibitions for the high schools February through April, donating all matting, glass, and framing and display it in a gallery setting for three weeks at one of their stores. The five “best of show” winners from each high school have their artwork exhibited at the Thompson Center and scholarship winners were selected on Sunday, May 12.
