NORTHBROOK, IL — With the annual Northbrook Grand Prix ready to excite residents next week in downtown Northbrook, a new event is set to run in conjunction with the race. "Bike the Green" is the perfect activity for kids looking to cycle around a professional circuit.

Organized by the Northbrook Park District, the free event runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Village Green Park, and will be followed by a community ride around the Grand Prix course from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., in-between the men's and women's professional races.

The Northbrook Grand Prix, presented by the Village of Northbrook, will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the streets surrounding Village Green Park.

For "Bike the Green," officials said children will have an opportunity to bike decorate, washing bikes, race tricycles, Hot Shots games and sports, and face painting. All participants will receive a goodie bag and free giveaways.

"We are offering this event to bring our community together, promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and support and promote the men's and women's pro bike races at the Northbrook Grand Prix," said Shawn Bernaky, NPD's Techny Prairie activity center manager, who will oversee the event.
