Box Of Highly Valuable Baseball Cards Go Missing During Move: Northbrook Police Blotter

The resident, who had recently hired movers to assist, said the cards were valued between $125,000 and $150,000.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • Berat Karatas, of Mount Prospect, is accused of improper lane usage, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:55 p.m. Feb. 14, at Dundee and Waukegan roads. A court date of March 4 was assigned.
  • Jose F. Rubio Carrillo, of Waukegan, is accused of having an unsecured trailer load, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 8:36 p.m. Feb. 17, at Dundee Road and Ash Lane. An officer was responding to a non-injury auto crash. When he arrived, he learned a truck driven by Rubio Carrillo had lost its trailer and the trailer crashed into a fence. A court date of March 17 was assigned.

DRUG POSSESSION

Nathan M. Norman, of Skokie, is accused of possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, failure to signal, and was arrested at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 19, at Three Lakes and Waukegan Road. An officer reportedly saw a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Norman fail to signal when it was turning. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, identified as Norman. The officer smelled burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle and Norman admitted to having cannabis inside. The officer reportedly found six baggies of cannabis and a drug that was suspected to be amphetamine. A court date of Feb. 23 was assigned.

A Shermer Road resident reported at 6:25 p.m. Feb. 13, that she had found an iPhone 17 for sale on Facebook. She agreed to meet the seller at the train station and pay him $600. After the sale, she noticed the iPhone was fake and the sale was a scam.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A Crabtree Lane resident reported at 12:44 p.m. Feb. 14, noticing an unauthorized charge on her credit card in the amount of $349.11 to the company QVC. The complainant tried logging into her QVC account, but it appeared someone had taken over the account. After getting assistance from the company, the complainant noticed someone illegally purchased two Dyson vacuums in her name with her credit card.

THEFT

A resident of the 900 block of Springhill Drive reported at 7:34 a.m. Feb. 18, she had recently hired movers to assist with taking his home valuables from one location to another. During the move a box of high valued baseball trading cards had gone missing. The total value of the cards was between $125,000 and $150,000. The officer contacted the moving company and is working with the staff to locate the missing cards.

RETAIL THEFT

The loss prevention staff of a retail store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 6:43 p.m. Feb. 19, a male had walked into the store and grabbed five pairs of pants. The male then ran out of the store without paying for any of the items. The total value of the pants was $1,685.
