Burglar Breaks Into Car, Steals Purse: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • Ennis Gomez, of Miami, Florida, had an arrest warrant for retail theft, and was arrested at 4:52 p.m. Sept. 30, in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road. According to police, Gomez had allegedly stolen several gallons of diesel fuel from a local gas station by using the victim's credit card without their permission on March 15, 2022. After an extensive investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Gomez. Gomez was arrested at the DuPage County Courthouse while he was appearing for another case. A court date has been set for October 12.
  • Rojine Warfield, of Chicago, had an active warrant for retail theft out of DuPage County, and was arrested at 2:50 p.m. Oct. 1, in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. The officers responded to the area where a 2007 red Toyota was seen. The vehicle had been reported to be involved in several Chicagoland retail thefts. Officers made contact with the owner of the vehicle, Warfield, when they found him parked in a shopping mall parking lot. He was taken into custody and later picked up by the arresting agency, Lombard Police Department.

Fredy A. Rivas-Martinez, of Prospect Heights, is accused of improper lane usage, driving while license suspended, driving under the influence, felony aggravated DUI, and was arrested at 8:22 p.m. Oct. 3, at Dundee Road and Charlemagne Drive. Police said a 2009 red Toyota crossing over the midline of the roadway. The officer activated the emergency lights and stopped the vehicle.A court date has not been set at the time of the report.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Titus S. Smith, of Blue Island, had an active arrest warrant out of DuPage County for driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 10:19 p.m. Oct. 3, at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard. A court date of Oct. 20. Smith posted a cash bail for the DuPage County warrant.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1200 block of Daryl Lane reported at 4:19 p.m. Sept. 30, someone broke into her 2008 Lexus SUV while it was parked in the driveway overnight. The subject stole her purse and all the contents. The purse was later found lying on the pavement of a side street. A neighbor of the victim also had their vehicle rummaged through while it was parked in front of their house, but nothing was taken.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 4200 block of Yorkshire Lane reported at 3:54 p.m. Oct. 2, said they left their house at 9 a.m. When they returned at 3:50 p.m., they found a first floor window had been smashed and someone burglarized their home. The unknown person took money and jewelry.

ATTEMPTED RETAIL THEFT

  • The loss prevention staff of a business in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 6:01 p.m. Oct. 3, an unknown female stole three leather mini bags. The staff confronted the subject outside the store. The subject dropped two of the bags and the staff was able to grab the third from her hand. The subject ran away before the police arrived.
  • The loss prevention staff of a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 12:35 p.m. Oct. 4, to report they recognized a subject inside their store that has stolen from them in the past. They observed the subject pick up a duffle bag and begin loading it with merchandise. When the subject walked outside the store with the items without paying, they stopped him. The staff was able to recover the merchandise, but the subject fled the area prior to the officers’ arrival.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Killarney Lane resident reported at 4:01 p.m. Oct. 4, someone used her name to take out a loan back in 2022 without her permission in the amount of $3,600.
