Car Used In Catalytic Converter Thefts Flees: Northbrook PD Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Netta DeLattes, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and was arrested at 5:16 p.m. May 24, following a crash in the 800 block of Sanders Road. According to police, officers responded to a liquor store where the crash had occurred. A court date of June 28 was assigned.

REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Maria T. Lezniak, of Buffalo Grove, is accused of having a revoked driver's license, expired registration, suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 7:44 p.m. May 24, at Willow and Pfingsten roads. A court date of June 11 was assigned.

DRUG POSSESSION

Sergio L. Diaz, of Chicago, is accused of possession of cannabis over 30 grams, and was arrested at 2:53 a.m. May 29, in the 800 block of Skokie Boulevard. According to police, Diaz was approached in a car that had a strong odor of cannabis coming from the inside. Police reportedly found an open bottle of alcohol in the back seat, 82 grams of cannabis, 20 vape pen packages, cannabis edibles, and a scale to measure the weight of the items. Police said Diaz admitted all the items were his. A court date of June 14 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

FLEEING AND ELUDING

  • Police responded to Shermer and Willow roads at 3:26 a.m. May 24, where a black Dodge Charger had been seen. The vehicle had been associated with catalytic converter thefts from previous incidents and had a license plate attached that was assigned to a different vehicle. When the officers found the vehicle driving, they attempted to stop it and identify the driver. When they activated the emergency lights, the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed near Shermer Road and Willow Road.
  • Police responded to the area of Willow and Waukegan roads at 4:24 a.m. May 25, for a report a stolen 2016 Toyota RAV4 was in the area. Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. After the officer activated his emergency lights, the vehicle sped up and disobeyed the red light signals while fleeing from the officer.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

A resident in the 2000 block of Valencia Drive reported that during the overnight hours of May 24, someone had stolen the catalytic converter from their car parked in the driveway.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A River Falls Drive resident called police at 12:01 p.m. May 24, to report someone had used her credit card number to purchase men’s gym shoes from an online store in the amount of $2,200. She was notified through her email that the shoes would be arriving at her address in a few days. She notified the store’s fraud department of the crime.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Bromley Place resident reported at 9:50 a.m. May 28, they had received a phone call from a real estate agency in Arizona. The representative advised the complainant he owed money from overdue rent with an apartment that was in his name and social security number. The complainant told the real estate agent he has never rented an apartment and did not allow anyone to use his information to commit fraud.
