Children's Hospital Opening Northbrook Outpatient Surgical Center
The expanded Lurie Children's Hospital facility is set to open next month at Techny Road and Founders Drive in Northbrook.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Lurie Children's Hospital is opening an expanded ambulatory surgical center in September at 1121 Techny Road and intends to invest more than $35 million in the project, including rent, Crain's Chicago Business reported. Lurie, formerly known as Children's Memorial Hospital, opened the neighboring outpatient facility four years ago. It is one of a dozen operated by the hospital in the Chicago area.
The new ambulatory surgical center will have four operating rooms, an MRI and room for an expanded clinic, according to the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce.
Hospital representatives said over 70 percent of the hospital's procedures are performed at its outpatient locations, and more than 30 percent of patients come from the North Shore, according to Crain's.

Currently, 85 percent of the hospital's surgeries take place at its Near North Side Chicago location. A hospital spokesperson told Crain's the opening of the 26,000-square-foot Northbrook facility would give its downtown location "room to grove."

Located at Techny Road and Founders Drive between the Crate & Barrel headquarters and the North Shore Ice Area, the MeadowPark office development also includes Bright Horizons Child Care, in addition to the children's hospital facilities. Lurie also operates north suburban outpatient facilities in Arlington Heights, Grayslake and Lake Forest.
