Comcast, Public Works Ruses Used In Burglaries: Northbrook Crimes

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest does not mean a person is guilty, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARY
A person purported to work for Comcast came to a home in the 1900 block of Thornwood Lane and was allowed inside. After the suspect left, residents discovered that several drawers in the bedroom had been rummaged through. It was not immediately known if anything was missing.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 1700 block of Happ Road reported that a person claiming to represent Northbrook Public Works came to their front door around 5:21 p.m. on Jan. 9. The person told the resident a tree in a neighbor's backyard fell on a shed while it was being trimmed. The resident went into the backyard with the purported village employee. When they returned to the home, they found jewelry and other items missing from a purse.
THEFT OF LOST ITEM
A patron in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 11:24 p.m. on Jan. 9 that they left a cell phone in a ride-sharing vehicle that had transported them earlier in the day.

FRAUD
A resident in the 1000 block of Sussex Drive reported on Jan. 9 that someone called claiming to the "attorney for their nephew" and alleged that bond money was needed. The purported attorney claimed that the resident should wire transfer the money to the Dominican Republic. The resident later determined that it was a scam.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 49-year-old Northbrook man was arrested at 9:52 a.m. on Jan. 5 and charged with driving with a suspended license and expired plates after a traffic stop near the intersection of Dundee and Waukegan roads.
A 31-year-old Skokie man was arrested at 7:02 p.m. on Jan. 5 and cahrged with driving with a suspended license and without signaling or having insurance following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow and Landwehr roads.
Lauren Ruh, 32, of the 2800 block of Walters Avenue, Northbrook, was arrested at 7:12 p.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Dundee and Landwehr roads. She was also ticketed for speeding and an open container of alcohol.
A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 10:18 a.m. on Jan. 7 and charged with driving with a suspended license, improper use of registration, failure to secure registration and driving an uninsured vehicle, as well as an outstanding bond forfeiture warrant issued by McHenry County for another suspended license charge, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Shermer and Waukegan roads. After Northbrook police processed him, he was released to McHenry County authorities.
Sakina R. Frohlich, 35, of the 2100 block of of Rugen Road, Glenview, was arrested on Jan. 8 and charged with driving under the influence after police responded to the area of the intersection of Shermer and Dundee roads to investigate a property damage crash. She was also ticketed for driving too fast for conditions, improper lane usage, driving without insurance and not having her driver's license with her.
Alexander S. Kollias, 21, of the 900 block of Surrey Lane, Northbrook, was arrested at 12:44 a.m. on Jan. 9 and charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic arrest near the intersection of Dundee Road and Oakleaf Terrace. Police said an officer noticed a car parked with its lights on, spoke with its occupants and smelled cannabis. The officer then called for help from a drug-sniffing dog and located and undisclosed amount of contraband.
A 20-year-old Glenview man was arrested at 10:49 a.m. on Jan. 10 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow and Pfingsten roads. He was also ticketed for expired registration and no proof of insurance.
