'DEA Agent' Attempts To Dupe Resident With Phone Scam: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Francisco Quijada, 22, of the 400 block of S Fulton Avenue, Waukegan, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper parking on roadway, uninsured motor vehicle, driving while license suspended, expired registration, and was arrested at 12:11 a.m. Aug. 1, at Skokie Boulevard and Lake Cook Road. He was released after posting a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of Aug. 23.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee at Dick's Sporting Goods, 200 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 7:15 p.m. July 29, that a female removed merchandise from the store without paying for the items.

THEFT ATTEMPT

A Greenview Road resident called police at 7:52 p.m. July 30, to report someone who claimed to represent the DEA informed them that they were being investigated for drug trafficking. The complainant said the caller then brought another person, who claimed to represent the FBI, in on the conversation. The second person instructed the complainant that they needed to take cash out of their accounts and mail it to them via FedEx. The complainant stated that they supplied the callers with personal information. Prior to sending any funds to the callers, the complainant learned that this was a scam.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

An officer on patrol at 4:37 a.m. Aug. 2, found new graffiti on a gazebo banister at Village Green, 1800 block of Walters.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Medford Circle resident reported at 7:43 a.m. Aug. 3, someone used their information to open a cellular telephone contract without their permission.
  • A Riverfalls Drive resident called police at 12:56 p.m. Aug. 3, to report they received a credit card verification letter from a local bank which they did not apply for.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

A Meadow Road resident called police at 11:21 a.m. Aug. 3, to report they received a package in the mail which they did not order.

ILLEGAL DUMPING

  • A person reported at 11:45 a.m. Aug. 3, that an employee of Vogue Furniture, 4100 block of Dundee Road, used the business dumpster to discard garbage without permission.
  • A person called police at 7:28 p.m. Aug. 3, to report they saw a man dump various items in the dumpster at First Choice Coffee Service, 3500 block of Commercial, and leave.

THEFT

A person reported at 7:07 a.m. Aug. 5, someone removed tools from a work site without permission in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard.
