Donors Line Up To Participate In Northbrook D28 Blood Drive
Organizers said 46 pints of blood was collected, which is enough to save 138 lives.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Donating blood is an essential community activity that can help save lives. A recent blood drive in Northbrook District 28 was a huge success in that endeavor as 46 pints of blood were collected on Sept. 10, which is enough to save 138 lives according to organizers. It was the inaugural drive sponsored by the district.
Staff members, parents and residents took all found time to donate at Greenbriar School, 2195 Cherry Lane. The event was organized by Greenbriar School Nurse Haley Sachs in honor of a colleague who is battling cancer, instructional assistant Grace Lombardo, and a cancer survivor, Dr. Kelly Sculles, director of student services, according to a news release.
“When you make it convenient (right here at the school), people are more inclined to do it,” Kristin Corradini, a parent of Westmoor and Northbrook Junior High students, said.

The battle with cancer Lombardo faces and the possibility that she may need a blood transfusion drove home the importance of donating blood, Sachs said.
“One pint can save up to three lives,” Sachs said, as she finished donating in a new personal record of 4 minutes and 11 seconds.
