Drunken Driver Flees Cops, Gets To Home Garage: Northbrook PD Blotter
After repeatedly being told to stop his car, the Northbrook man agreed, but then drove off from police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Daniel Y. Kim, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 12:19 a.m. Nov. 16, at Sanders Road and Picardy Drive. Police saw a car driven by Kim travel over the double yellow lines on the roadway multiple times. Police said they activated their emergency lights to stop the vehicle, but that it wouldn't stop. The officer then turned on his sirens multiple times and the vehicle finally came to a stop. As the officer approached the vehicle, Kim reportedly drove away and pulled into a driveway. The officer caught up with Kim and told him to turn off his car. Kim then reportedly activated his garage door to open it, but finally complied. Kim, appearing intoxicated according to police, tried getting out of the car with his seatbelt on. A court date of Dec. 13 was assigned.

BATTERY
Jared Whiting, of Chicago, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 11:06 p.m. Nov. 16, in the 1300 block of Shermer Road. Police had received multiple calls from a restaurant because of a fight that had started. Once the officers arrived, a staff member explained a verbal argument had started between a patron and Whiting. The staff got them outside the restaurant, but Whiting reportedly started another fight with his coworker. When the staff member attempted to break up that fight, Whiting punched the staff member with a closed fist on his face. A court date of Dec. 5 was assigned.

HIT AND RUN
Karl E. Kohlhase, of Northbrook, is accused of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and was arrested at 6:33 p.m. Nov. 17, in the 800 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police had responded to a vehicle that had crashed into a building. It appeared a vehicle lost control and crashed into the front of a garden store. When the officers arrived, the vehicle had fled the scene. The building damage consisted of shattered windows, structure damage to the fascia and beams, as well as damaged goods inside the store. The officers are utilized cameras in the area to help identify the vehicle and driver, Kohlhase. The officers made contact with Kohlhase, who admitted losing control over his 2004 Ford Mustang and fled the scene. A court date of Dec. 12 was assigned.
IDENTITY THEFT
Coprez L. Coffie, of Northbrook, is accused of three counts of felony identity theft, and was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Nov. 17, in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard. The complainant said he had stayed at an assisted living facility and shared a room with Coffie. On Nov. 17, the complainant and Coffie reportedly got into a verbal argument over how they were sharing the room, and the complainant packed up his belongings and moved out. Shortly after leaving the facility, the complainant started receiving texts on his phone for fraudulent transactions with his credit card. He then realized he left his wallet and credit cards in the room. When he returned, he contacted the Northbrook Police Department because he knew Coffie had unlawfully used them. The complainant said the transactions were two at Walmart.com and one at Apple.com (totaling $544.54). When the officers spoke to Coffie, he admitted to the unlawful acts and showed the officers how he found the complainant's wallet. He had used his phone to commit the online fraud. Coffie was charged with three counts of felony identity theft. A court date of Nov. 18 was assigned.
WARRANT SERVICE
Alejandro Jimenez Jr., of Aurora, had a warrant out of Kendall County for traffic offenses, and was arrested at 12:12 a.m. Nov. 19, in the 1500 block of Skokie Boulevard. The Northbrook police and fire departments responded to a building that had smoke coming from a machine inside. Officers spoke with Jimenez, who was one of the workers at the building. Jimenez was taken into custody and provided a new court date.

INCIDENTS
PICKPOCKET
A citizen called police at 2 p.m. Nov. 18, to report she had shopped at a grocery store in the 3100 block of Moon Hill Drive. As she was leaving, she noticed someone had stolen her credit cards and cash ($40) out of her purse when she was not looking. She started receiving alerts on her phone for someone fraudulently using her stolen credit cards in various towns. The subject unlawfully charged over $2,000 on the stolen credit cards.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
A citizen called police at 2:36 p.m. Nov. 20, to report he had parked his work van in his driveway overnight in the 1600 block of Ferndale Avenue. When he returned, he discovered the rear window was shattered. Several power tools were missing from inside. The total amount stolen was approximately $6,500.
BURGLARY
Police responded to a burglar alarm at 4:28 a.m. Nov. 21, at a liquor store in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road. Once they arrived, they found the front glass door shattered. No one was located inside the store. The surveillance footage showed five people had broken into the store. The owner of the business said several bottles of tequila and cognac were stolen. It appeared those involved stole money from the cash register as well.
